Our adaptability as Nigerians is a phenomena that needs to be studied. Honestly, it's true that you'll end up spending over 1k just by leaving the house but it's already become normal. It's no longer strange to have so many side gigs to stay afloat. The crumbling economy is the least of our problems too. Survival is what is paramount now and that's a sad way to live yet we have no choice but to work with the hand we have been dealt.
When will enough be enough? With our new habit of always being on the clock for the sake of the grind and money? I fear it will never be enough even when it's enough.
Many people in the western world don't even struggle as much as we do to get what we get. It's a known fact that if they put the average skilled Nigerian with proper ethics in a sane and working system, you're getting more results than what you'll get in Nigeria
This piece reminds me of the lecture one of my departmental professors gave at this session's induction. Talking about we having side hustles because "our 'professional course' would barely be enough to feed us"💀
I love that you pointed out the "student community" because bro!!! E hard! I think it's even much more difficult for those of us pursuing a skill or trying to build around a skill because the financial toll coupled with balancing it with academics and relationships can be so overwhelming! We're just running on passion ajeh💀
You said you don't think taking up more side hustles would be beneficial in the long run. I'd like to know why.
