Dear World (and Boomers who think TikTok is a cult),
There are so many things people say about Gen Z, most of which were said by people who think the ‘obvious’ AI videos of new borns leaving the hospital on their own two feet is a sign of the end time.
Let’s clear the air: Gen Z is not a walking trauma dump. And not all of us are out here diagnosing ourselves with 3 personality disorders just because someone on Instagram said we are capricorns. So let’s get into it.
Myth 1: Gen Zs hates working.
No, We just hate suffering.
Y’all normalized waking up at 5am, sitting in traffic, and burning yourselves out for companies that gave you nothing when you retired. We saw the math, it wasn’t adding up. We said, maybe let’s not do that? And suddenly, we’re lazy?
Myth 2: We’re too sensitive.
Please. We were grew up seeing economic recessions, climate panic, Ebola, Covid 19, Government brutality and Titus sardine going from N80 to N2,000.
Yes, we talk about feelings—because our parents didn’t. We're just trying not to pass down generational silence and anxiety.
Myth 3: We’re always on our phones.
And you’re always in our business.
We use our phones to escape the madness y’all built. To connect and make jokes about the trauma before it swallows us up.
That’s emotional resilience ‘Mary’!
Myth 4: We want to be influencers.
Nah. We want to pay rent, maybe travel, and not burn out before 30. But if a brand wants to pay me for doing my skincare routine in sunlight? Baby, I’m taking the deal.
Myth 5: We don’t believe in marriage.
Lol. We do. We’re just trying not to marry someone who is abusive emotionally and physically, and justify it with love. We’re not willing to settle for homes where ‘roles’ are reversed or become misery in Anco (matching clothes).
We’re not perfect. But we’re not only chasing lip combos or BBLs either. We’re trying—to heal, to grow, to break cycles while still being a little unserious on the weekends. Because all work and no play makes Jack a dull what?
So no, we’re not broken. Just self aware with a sprinkle of delusion and a dream of a quiet life where we are truly respected. Also, the oldest Gen Z is 28 years old— get a grip guys!
And if that’s simply weird to you, honey, you’re the weird one.
Congratulations, you made it to the end. I would love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment.

Which is why the heading is “ We are not all wild”. The main point is not to generalize these myths because not everyone is wired that way.
You could liken it to “All men are cheats”. Not all men are right? Still, it’s a common misconception.
I hope you understand the concept.♥️
Okay firstly I really love this article♥️. But I'd like to share my view on something. Myth 3 says that we're always on our phones to escape the madness our parents created right? But I feel that's a far stretched view of it. There's a fine line between distracting one's self with something and being plainly addicted to it. Let's be honest a lot of us GenZs are addicted to our phones, constantly frolicking in the digital space without doing anything productive with our screen time. So yes we do try to escape, but escaping shouldn't lead to addictions.
